    HAPPY COO YEAR!

Well, it's been some time since I last updated this site, but there's been a flutter of interest again since it was featured in the end of year best of b3ta list. Yay!

May be it's time for some more PigeonCam action...

More media attention in PigeonCam has been brought to my attention by Mike Spontak, who posted an entry in my guestbook informing me that USA Today featured this site in their Web Guide 'Hot Sites' section the other day. See for yourselves here. Cheers Mike!

Fame at last. Well, of sorts...

A clip of PigeonCam was used on tonight's ‘Live With…Christian O’Connell’ in a feature called 'The Stupid Things Men Do' which I guess is pretty apt.

I just hope I can use the remaining fourteen or so minutes of allotted fame I have left more productively....

Had further communications with the people from Channel 5. It looks like PigeonCam could be on tomorrow's show along with a phone interview with me - I dunno, greater minds than mine sweat for years creating masterpieces of art and literature without any recognition, and I get on the ‘telly for harassing flying vermin with a remote control car. It's a funny old world...

    Don't forget to s
    et your videos...!

OK, now things are getting silly now. I've just received an e-mail from the producer of ‘Live With…Christian O’Connell’, a program that goes out on Channel 5 Monday to Thursday at 7pm. They want to use the clips on the show...! As Warhol said, we’re all due our 15 minutes of fame; it’s just a little unsettling that mine has come from harassing pigeons…

Spurred by this unprecedented interest, I head off  to Argos to buy a new RC car. After much deliberation, I plump for the Nikko Mini Cooper at £14.99. Apart from being a design classic and being the right side of cheap without being totally kak, it has a nice flat roof for added stability with camera fixing.  I'm using my own Fuji FinePix A202 camera now; it's nothing special but it is light, which is a plus with such a cheapo car. PigeonCam MkII is up and running and I head for what must surely be the Mecca of pigeons - Trafalgar Square.
Sadly, the square is quite devoid of pigeons these days, thanks largely to Mayor Ken Livingston's congestion charge for birds or something like that. This is somewhat sad because as a child, I can remember swarms of the beasts flapping all round me munching away on the feed available to buy from a nearby stall. That is all a thing of the past. The stall is long gone and with it most of the pigeons. A few die hard (or stubborn) birds remain, but I was amazed to see that there are three or four guys patrolling the square whose sole purpose seems to be to frighten the pigeons away! What a job! I must confess I got a few jealous stares when they saw the pigeon dispersing powers of my PigeonCam...

The pigeons that were there were a lot more streetwise compared to their more tardy suburban cousins. Whereas the birds in Croydon used flight as a last resort, the pigeons in Trafalgar Square nipped out of the way with surprising agility. Perhaps I am unwittingly at the forefront of some groundbreaking pigeon socio-cultural study? Perhaps I'm taking this too seriously? Regardless, see the results here.

I've been trying to create Mov files of the videos but they're massive (200Mb+!) If anyone wants to give me a few pointers on resizing them I'd be truly grateful as I cant get my head around it!

Wow! PigeonCam has now been featured on the  b3ta weekly newsletter! This is indeed a great honour. *BLUSH*

The dust is blown off the files in my PC and PigeonCam is reborn. Having posted the files on b3ta.com they appear to have gone 'viral'. See the response here.
